Custom gears to drawing or sample

Custom Gear Machining to Drawing or Sample

Send a drawing or the worn gear. We cut, heat treat, finish and inspect it to the class you need. Prototypes, replacements and production batches. Reply within 24 business hours.

Gears we make

  • Spur gears
  • Helical gears
  • Bevel and miter gears
  • Worm and worm wheels
  • Racks and pinions
  • Internal gears
  • Sprockets
  • Splined shafts

Gear blanks are turned first, then the teeth are hobbed, shaped or milled, heat treated and, for high classes, ground.

Hobbed or ground teeth?

Both make accurate gears. The difference is the quality class, the noise level and the price.

Hobbed or shaped

Teeth are cut by a hob or shaper cutter. The standard route for most industrial gears.

  • Fast and cost effective
  • Good for soft or through hardened gears
  • Typical classes AGMA 8 to 10, ISO 8 to 9

Ground after hardening

Teeth are cut, case hardened, then ground to correct distortion.

  • Quiet running at high speed
  • Typical classes AGMA 11 to 13, ISO 5 to 6
  • Higher price, needed for precise drives

Typical gear materials and treatments

What to expect in each material. These are typical values, not promises. Your quote confirms them for your gear.

Where our gears run

Tell us the speed, load and lubrication. We match material and class to the job.

Industrial gearboxes

Spur and helical sets, pinions and shafts.

Conveyors and material handling

Sprockets, racks, worm drives.

Agriculture

Replacement gears for older equipment.

Printing and packaging

Precise helical gears for quiet, accurate drives.

Robotics and automation

Small module gears and racks.

Pumps and mixers

Bevel and worm sets for heavy duty.

How it works

You send the problem. We take it from drawing to delivery and keep you informed at each step.

  1. Send your files

Drawing or gear data sheet. No drawing? Send the worn gear or the mating gear.

  2. We review and quote

We check the gear data, material and class, then quote the price and lead time.

  3. We produce and inspect

Blank turning, tooth cutting, heat treatment and finishing, then gear inspection.

  4. We deliver

Gears with inspection report and hardness results, packed against rust and damage.

What drives the price of a custom gear

Five things decide most gear quotes.

  • Quality classEach step up in class adds machine time, grinding and inspection.
  • Heat treatmentCase hardening adds a process, distortion and often grinding.
  • Size and moduleLarge gears need bigger machines. Very fine modules need special tooling.
  • ToolingNon-standard modules or profiles may need a dedicated hob or cutter.
  • QuantitySetup is paid once. Batches lower the price per gear quickly.

Questions customers ask

Something else? Email .

Can you make a gear from a worn sample?

Yes. We measure tooth count, module, pressure angle and helix angle, check the mating gear if available and draw the gear before cutting. You approve the gear data first.

What is the smallest order?

One gear. Single replacement gears are common. Batches lower the price per piece because setup and tooling are paid once.

Which quality class can you reach?

Hobbed gears typically reach AGMA 8 to 10. Ground gears typically reach AGMA 11 to 13. The quote states the class for your gear and how it is checked.

Do you supply the shaft as well?

Yes. Pinion shafts, splined shafts and gear and shaft assemblies are made to drawing like any gear.

Do you make the gears yourselves?

Production runs at partner shops we have audited for this kind of work. We stay responsible for the order: we review the drawing, pick the shop, follow production, inspect before shipping and deliver to you. You deal with one contact and one purchase order.

Can you sign an NDA first?

Yes. Tick the NDA box on the quote form and we sign one with you before anyone outside our team opens your files. Every partner on the project works under the same terms.
